With SUV-inspired styling and a high driving position, the popular Mazda CX-3 is the Japanese brand’s contender in one of the fastest-growing and most sought-after segments of the car market. Like any vehicle, it is not without some common faults though and the air conditioning condenser seems to be prone to failure. The condenser is a radiator that usually sits in front of the engine coolant radiator right at the front of the car so it benefits from maximum airflow. This forward positioning also means it is in the firing line for any grit and stones thrown up from the road so it can have a hard life.

The Mazda CX-3 uses the newer, more environmentally friendly type of refrigerant gas known as R1234YF which is better for the planet. On the downside it is more expensive than the gas it is replacing and it is therefore important that any leaks are repaired before re-gassing is carried out. The leaky condenser pictured below was removed by us from a CX-3 that was 6 years old and had only covered 36k miles. The oily stains clearly show where it has been leaking at the bottom and on the right hand side.

A new, OEM quality Nissens brand condenser, drier and seals were fitted and the customer was very pleased with the repair and the overall cost as it was much less than a third of the price quoted by the main dealer.
